Apple releases iOS 26.2.1 with bug fixes

Macworld

As we wait for the arrival of iOS 26.3 due in early February, Apple has released a smaller iOS 26.2.1 update this week, along with companion watchOS and iPad OS updates. Version 26.2.1 exists to support the new AirTags that were announced today.

The release notes only say: “This update provides support for AirTag (2nd generation) along with bug fixes.” The new AirTags enable Precision Finding on Apple Watch for the first time, only for Apple Watch Series 9, Ultra 2, or later. There are no published CVE entries on Apple’s security updates page.

If you have been holding out on upgrading to iOS 26 and you want to use the new AirTags, you’re going to have to finally take the plunge. Apple says the new accessory requires iOS 26 and specifically iOS 26.2.1 if you want the better Precision Finding to work.

To update your iPhone, open the Settings app, tap General, then Software Update and follow the prompts. To update your Apple Watch, open the Watch app on your paired iPhone, tap General, then Software Update, or on your Apple Watch, open Settings, tap General, then Software Update.
