This week in Apple History

On December 14, 2017, Apple released the iMac Pro. It was announced the previous June at WWDC. It was discontinued in 2021.

The emails discussed on the show were regarding to the iMac, except the last one.

I was pretty upset at your article especially since I had just purchased my fourth iMac. I’m forced to buy one every 10 years as I can’t update it. Besides the iMac I also have a MacBook and iPad and an iPhone. So I am all in.

Too bad it’s necessary to write about the embering of the iMac as we knew and love(d) it. Whatever happened to the Apple that was created for creatives? You know, like starving artists and the type?

David M. via email

I purchased my 27” iMac in 2020. It has been great but I would love to replace it. I keep holding out on the replacement of my iMac, hoping this’ll be the year. (I’ve never owned a desktop this long.) I think there are a lot of us out there!

The iMac is a poor long-term investment. I’ve been telling people: Buy an excellent display monitor that will last ten years or more, upgrade the computer box (Mini or Studio) as needed. Far better investment. Let the iMac die.  It was a good deal in its time. Not anymore.

Jim Royce via email

The iMac is being treated as the unwanted step child. I am still using my Intel based 2019 27 iMac while holding out hope for a new large screen iMac. – Hope dies hard, what else can I say.

My wife and I have made a “Beef” Wellington that has been a hit with us and meat-eating family members for many years. It’s a bit of work, making the seitan filling, the mushroom surround, and the creamy spinach sauce, but it pays off in the end (trust me!).
